While the Oracle
E-Business Suite offers powerful functionality, managing it can be unwieldy.
I’ve witnessed this several times during the past few weeks in my dealings with
customers, prospects, and partners at all levels of their organization. For
example, I belong to the virtual Oracle Apps User Group at
ITToolbox. Everyday my inbox receives message from users seeking
easier ways to get things done.
Take, for example,
the email from one user seeking an Oracle Applications API to send an alert
whenever a new work order is completed. This is a seemingly simple task, which
requires an easier way to communicate business process information. That is to
say, most likely, a manager wants to know whenever someone from his staff
completes a project.
Unfortunately,
there’s no easy way to do this within the Oracle E-Business Suite – exusiness Suite whenever an event occurs. Using Communication Manager is
better than using e-mail because e-mails might be ignored. In addition to
sending system-generated alerts, Communication Manager also enables users to
send messages to other others – again, all within Oracle Applications. Overall,
this is a much easier solution than custom programming for the user in the
situation above.
By the way, if you don’t belong to ITToolbox, I
encourage you to join. It’s a great resource for the Oracle Applications
administrator to get answers to everyday questions as well as the latest tips &
tricks.
Also, if you get the chance, at
drop me a note
and let me know what difficult Oracle Applications situations we might be able
to make a little easier for you.
Sincerely,
Michael Segev President and CEO
